Will life underwater suffer? A floating solar field takes light away from the underwater ecosystem. The impact of this remains too unclear. With INNOZOWA Waterschap Rivierenland and Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie (NIOO-KNAW) research the effect of this increased cover on the underwater light climate and related ecological processes. To do this, the degree of coverage of the field is changed over time (50% and 75%): the lower the coverage, the more light underwater. The ecology’s response to this is continuously monitored. With this knowledge, we can design future systems to avoid negative effects on ecology.
